Comprehensible Portuguese Podcast

Until episode number 7 this podcast was called Portuguices. If you hear any reference to that title or a website with the same name while listening to those, I'm actually talking about this website!

TEMPORADA 1 - SEASON 1

Episode 01 - About this Portuguese podcast and me

Hello, everyone! This is the first episode of my Comprehensible Portuguese Podcast! In this episode, I introduce myself, this podcast, and its idea.

This podcast is for Brazilian Portuguese learners who want to listen to understandable and meaningful audio content in Portuguese with transcripts.

Episode 02 - How do Brazilians celebrate New Year? Traditions and superstitions

In this episode, I talk about the hot, summery New Year celebration we have here in the Southern Hemisphere. You'll notice that Brazilians are pretty superstitious when it comes to New Year's traditions. So grab a cup of coffee and have fun!

03 - What's the weather like in Brazil?

In this episode, I show you how to ask and answer simple questions about the weather. Also, I talk about the temperature itself here in the south of Brazil in January and compare it to the temperature in other places because Brazil is a country in which the climate varies considerably from region to region. Grab a bowl of açaí and have fun!

04 - Turn off your tv and go read a book!

In this episode, I talk about one of the boldest television "commercials" I have ever seen. Back in the early 2000s on Brazilian MTV, there was a very creative yet provocative reading campaign. So turn off your tv (or maybe your phone?) and have fun!

05 - Is the internet good or evil?

In this episode, I list some arguments people use to defend their points of view about the internet and compare some advantages and disadvantages that people usually bring up. Enjoy this online podcast and have fun!

06 - Who chooses your playlist?

In this episode, I talk about the way I approach choosing music to listen to. Sometimes, I use music to get me going. Sometimes, I let my mood decide and just go with the flow. Listen to my enthusiastic rant about music and let me know what your approach is in the comments!

07 - Self-learning vs classroom learning

In this episode, I compare the advantages of different approaches when it comes to learning something new. I'm currently teaching myself two languages, and I love doing it by myself. However, I've recently taken the CELTA course in a group, and it was such a great experience. So which approach is better? Vamos descobrir!

08 - I'll come up with a better title later

In this episode, as the title suggests, I talk about procrastination. Why do we do it? How do we fight it? Should we even? All this and much more from a professional Brazilian procrastinator: yours truly!

09 - Ordering takeout vs. cooking at home

In this episode, I talk about the million-dollar question: order takeout or stay home and prepare yourself a meal? This episode will make you hungry. Grab a pão de queijo and let's go!

Ep 10 - I taught a celebrity

In this episode, I talk about the life-changing experience I had when a YouTube celebrity in Brazil ( @SmallAdvantages / Gavin Roy) booked a Portuguese lesson with me.

Ep 11 - What is being a teacher really like?

In this episode, I talk about my biggest passion: teaching. Ironically, I had never thought about becoming a teacher when I was younger. It turns out I did become one, and I couldn't be happier about my decision!

12 - Why is learning English difficult in Brazil?

In this episode, I break down a very recurrent topic among Brazilians. As you'll see, this "difficulty" mentioned in the title results from a series of factors (including the way English courses advertise their services in Brazil).

13 - Does neutral accent exist?

A question my students ask all the time is: "what accent should I learn while learning Brazilian Portuguese?". In this episode, I explore this and related questions when it comes to accents in Brazilian Portuguese.

14 - Getting paid to have fun? The intriguing world of streaming

Have you ever asked yourself: "Can I make money off of doing something fun?". In this episode, I try to navigate the intricate world of professional streaming and its implications for the traditional labor market.
